Conversely, I have seen many, many successful online businesses start as well. The key difference is hard work, dedication, and patience. Plus it doesn't hurt to become aware of the current market trends and then make a smart decision. Below I have outline an extremely simple way of starting an Internet business.

This Internet business idea will not turn you into a six figure online success story overnight, but it will help you to start making some money online relatively quickly. You just then have to repeat it and pretty soon you will be earning a good income. The key is to make original high quality websites and monetize them through a combination of Google AdSense and affiliate programs.

Building A Website

One of the most satisfying accomplishment one can experience is to build a website from scratch and watch it bring in money day after day. When you are considering a website topic, you'll want to focus on products or services with which you are familiar. After you have built one or two successful sites you can consider branching out but until then just to stick to things you know.

The beauty of online business is that it's easy to locate new business ideas. Pretty much anything can potentially turn into a profitable Internet business. So, just think of something you like and start writing.

Income

There are many ways to generate income from your website. The ideal, is to have multiple streams of income because that way you are protected should any one thing go wrong. The two most popular ways of making money from a website are affiliate programs and Google AdSense, but you should always be on the look out for new income ideas.

Affiliate sales are very common on the Internet, and can also be very lucrative. Basically, you promote other people's products and get a commission from every one you sell. The most popular affiliate program for physical goods like books, DVDs etc is Amazon and the most popular one for digital products like ebooks and software is ClickBank. However, you can always Google search your website topic +affiliate program to find one for your niche.

Google AdSense is another great way to make money from a website. All you have to do is past some code into your site and wham there you are potentially making money from every visitor. You can sign-up for the program through Google's own website.

An online business is just as good as a regular business. In fact, it may even be better. In order to succeed, however, you have to start from the basics and work your way up to become an authority - just as you would have to in any regular business.

Find Your Niche

Regardless if you want to be a professional blogger or build an online business selling one or more products or services, you first have to find your 'niche'. Simply put, your niche is your place in the sun, or at least, the Internet.

Why is picking the right niche important? This is because your niche is to become your expertise. In order to gain a following, respect from your peers and competitors, and success, you have to become an authority in whatever niche you choose. Suffice to say, you literally have to live and breathe your niche.

To find your niche, consider the things that you're passionate about. Do you like books? Why not sell used books or write insightful book reviews? Are you knowledgeable in web design and actually enjoy it? Why not offer your services to webmasters and design templates? Indeed, the best niches are the ones that you find most enjoyable. Customers and readers alike are bound to pick up on your level of enthusiasm as you write about your product or pitch your service.

Do Your Research

Once you've determined your niche, do the research. What kind of research? In an online business, research entails keyword research.

Consider it a market research of sorts. You simply have to determine what keywords - the combination of words and phrases - that your potential customers would use to find your website, blog, or online store from the search engines. This is a process called Search Engine Optimization, more commonly known as SEO. Though this process may seem complicated, it really isn't. All it takes is a good working knowledge of its basic principles and the use of a few simple tools for you to easily use it to your advantage.

Put Yourself Out There

Once you've found your niche and have done the research needed to drive people to your little corner of the Internet, it's time to put your website, blog, or online store out there. This includes buying yourself a killer domain name, a host, and a good platform from which to build your site from.

If you're not particularly technical, you can always get some help. There are plenty of freelancers offering their services for less. If your budget is slightly higher, you can go for more established providers. You can also do it yourself, especially if you have a good working knowledge of what goes on behind the making of a website, blog, or online store. There are plenty of free resources such as ebooks and other websites that can guide you every step of the way.

So you see, starting an online business is definitely not a get-rich-quick scheme. Like any business, it requires a lot of patience and hard work. All it takes is a good idea to get your started.

1. Registered A Domain Name

I first got myself a catchy domain name for my business. This makes my website memorable. It's what I do for all my websites. Create an interesting theme and run with it. Stick out in the crowd, that's what I suggest.

2. Got A Web Hosting Account

I got a web hosting account immediately after I registered my domain name. This is for the purpose of hosting my website. Don't go with any free web host; these are mostly unreliable. You'll get lots of problems from free web hosts. They might work for a personal website, but not an ecommerce website.

3. Registered My Business

I then registered my business with my local authorities. This step is important to ensure you are not doing business illegally. Usually if you are above 18 or 21, you can register a business pretty easily. I paid less than $100 to register my mine online. Check with your local authorities to see how this process is done.

4. Got An Autoresponder Account

I got myself an autoresponder account at Aweber. This is because I know how important it is to build a subscribers list. Your list is your most important asset online.

5. Created A Website

I created a simple website with an opt-in form offering a free report. This website captures leads for me day-in and day-out. I highly recommend using an opt-in page instead of a sales page because your number one goal should be to capture subscribers and send them follow-up emails.
