As time progresses, I have become much more aware of the power of linking. This is one of the core strategies in search engine optimization that one must include.

To obtain top positions on Google and the other search engines, you not only need to understand the importance of back linking. More importantly, you need to know how to apply this strategy to build a successful home based business and develop a residual income. According to Wikipedia back links are the website or web page incoming links. The more back links created to your websites, the better the chances for gaining top positions on Google. Back links are also known as incoming links, inbound links, inlinks, and inward links.

Additionally, Google and other search engines use the number of back links to a website as one factor for determining that website's ranking. Websites often employ various search engine optimization techniques to increase the number of back links pointing to their website. Anytime that you write a blog, article, press release etc., you need to ensure that everything is link or back linked pointing to your primary website to draw traffic. The more links that you create, the higher the positions you can obtain on the search engines. This strategy is very powerful and extremely effective.

There are many out there in the internet community that have different perspectives on how best to develop your home based business and create a residual income. Some SEO expects advise you to do reciprocal linking to other websites creating more links to your website. At least this is their theory. This is not something I would normally recommend to building a residual income. If your goal is to build a home based business, then understand if you link to other websites, you could inadvertently draw more traffic away from your website. For example, if you post good original articles and someone with a popular website likes you content, they could post your article on their website. Depending on how popular their website is, the search engine spiders treat that as a separate url for your information.

Personally, I give back to the internet community by posting relevant information on all aspects of internet marketing, coaching, leadership etc.,that I hope will be helpful to a few people in their home based business. I'm absolutely committed to making a positive difference by sharing information, but I'm also in a home business to make money. From a business perspective and my SEO experience, I would suggest you focus on drawing traffic to your website. In fact, recently Google and the other search engines have been changing the rules to move away from this method by reciprocal back linking to move your websites up the rankings. Using the reciprocal method could actually hurt you in the long run.

To sum up what you need to do as part of back linking strategy, ensure that you write good relevant original content with a keywords. Every time you submit an article, blog etc., link back to your primary website to get higher rankings.
